Every parent wants to have the best part possible for their child’s birthday, but it can sometimes be nearly impossible to find the time to go shopping for birthday party supplies. The best solution to this dilemma is to do your shopping online.
Parents that lead busy lives love online shopping because it keeps them from having to run from store to store hunting for supplies. Plus the online stores have a huge selection of products to choose from. All it takes is a quick online search to see how many options you have at your fingertips. The best way to do it is to look for a store that has everything you need so you can get it all at once.
Of course, every child’s birthday party requires a good theme, and the birthday party supplies should match it. When you shop online you can get great ideas for a theme, since all of your choices are laid out before you in detail. If you already have a certain theme in mind, you will not be likely to run into any trouble finding supplies to match it online. These stores have themes that you wouldn’t have been likely to think of yet. You can get themed party packs which will make everything simpler. They have all of the supplies that you need in one package, and they are offered in a vast array of themes. This makes everything so much simpler, because then you know that all of your supplies are going to match. Plus, you don’t have to go looking for each item individually.
It is a good idea to make a list of what supplies you need to get for your child’s party. Think about things like plates, cups, hats etc. If you want to add a personal touch to the party, you could get a cake decorating kit and decorate your child’s cake yourself rather than ordering one. You also will probably want some decorations to hang up, along with some streamers. Plus you have to think about invitations. You want them to coordinate with your chosen theme so that your guests will know what type of party it is, just in case they want to bring something. You must definitely get balloons! There’s the standard rubber ones and then the shiny mylar ones. You could even get a mix of both kinds! Balloons are great for more than just decoration. They can give any party a more lively and happy feeling, and that is the kind of day you want your child to have on his or her birthday.
Don’t forget to get party favors. They are pretty much expected at children’s birthday parties. You can get all kinds of small inexpensive items to place in little goodie bags for the kids, like stickers, candy or coloring books. You can also get party favor boxes that match your theme and come filled with all kinds of favors for the kids. Getting birthday party supplies is made so much simpler by shopping online!

Mom and Pop Grocery Stores $45.29 Jews have a proud history as entrepreneurs and merchants. When Jewish immigrants began coming to America in greater and greater numbers during the late 19th century and early 20th century, many gravitated to the food industry, some as peddlers and fresh produce market stall hawkers, others as wholesalers, and still others as grocers. Most Jews who settled in Nebraska came from Russia and Poland, with smaller segments from Hungary, Germany, and other central and Eastern European nations. They were variously escaping pogroms, revolution, war, and poverty. The prospect of freedom and opportunity motivated Jews, just as it did other peoples, to flock here. At a time when Jews were restricted from entering certain fields, the food business was relatively wide open and affordable to enter. There was a time when for a few hundred dollars, one could put a down payment on a small store. That was still a considerable amount of money before 1960, but it was not out of reach of most working men who scrimped and put away a little every week. And that was a good thing too because obtaining capital to launch a store was difficult. Most banks would not lend credit to Jews and other minorities until after World War II. The most likely route that Jews took to becoming grocers was first working as a peddler, selling feed, selling produce by horse and wagon or truck, or apprenticing in someone else’s store. Some came to the grocery business from other endeavors or industries. The goal was the same — to save enough to buy or open a store of their own. By whatever means Jews found to enter the grocery business, enough did that during the height of this self-made era. From roughly the 1920s through the 1950s, there may have been a hundred or more Jewish-owned and operated grocery stores in the metro area at any given time. Jewish grocers almost always started out modestly, owning and operating small Mom and Pop neighborhood stores that catered to residents in the immediate area. By custom and convenience, most Jewish grocer families lived above or behind the store, although the more prosperous were able to buy or build their own free-standing home. Since most customers in Nebraska and Iowa were non-Jewish, store inventories reflected that fact, thus featuring mostly mainstream food and nonfood items, with only limited Jewish items and even fewer kosher goods. The exception to that rule was during Passover and other Jewish high holidays, when traditional Jewish fare was highlighted.Business could never be taken for granted. In lean times it could be a real struggle. Because the margin between making it and not making was often quite slim many Jewish grocers stayed open from early morning to early evening, seven days a week, even during the Sabbath, although some stores were closed a half-day on the weekend. Jewish stores that did close for the Sabbath were open on Sunday. |

Maison Blanche Department Stores $17.6 On October 30, 1897, S.J. Shwartz, Gus Schullhoefer, and Hartwig D. Newman–with financial backing from banker Isidore Newman–opened the Maison Blanche at the corner of Canal Street and Rue Dauphine in New Orleans. Converting Shwartz’s dry goods store into the city’s first department store, the trio created a retail brand whose name lasted over a century. In 1908, Shwartz tore his store down and built what was the city’s largest building–13 stories, with his Maison Blanche occupying the first five floors. The MB Building became, and still is, a New Orleans icon, and Maison Blanche was a retail leader in the city, attracting some of the best and brightest people in the business. One of those employees, display manager Emile Alline, created the store’s second icon, the Christmas character "Mr. Bingle," in 1947. Mr. Bingle continues to spark the imagination of New Orleans children of all ages. Even though Maison Blanche has become part of New Orleans’s past, the landmark Canal Street store lives on as the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. |
